Dear FHASE Members:
Middle of March in Florida, can't think of anything nicer!  Perfect weather to start off your spring show season!
So........................
Mark your calendars and plan to attend four shows in one!  The al Sol Show will be combined with the Fiesta Florida show, March 18-21, 2010 to be held at Canterbury Showplace in Newberry, FL.  Al Sol show will feature a breed show for Andalusians, Lusitanos and FRIESIANS, an ALL breed dressage show, and the Fiesta Florida show will feature inscription, revision and morphology classes for the Pure Spanish Horse (PRE).  See the attached announcement for more information.
This show is an IFSHA Qualifying show as you will see on the attached flier.
Please plan to attend and support this southern most Friesian show.
The plan is for something for everyone, be it dressage(to Grand Prix level) or traditional horse show classes.
Let's support Lesa's work in including the Friesian breed.
If you have questions or need information, please drop me a note.
Canterbury Show Place is in North Florida, very close to Gainesville, has camping hook-ups, nice stalls, covered and open arenas and hotels and eating very near by.
What could be more fun?
Hope to see you all there!!

During the FHANA convention in Reno, NV the FHANA board unveiled the Chapter of the Year program - which is designed to acknowledge all of the efforts of each of the FHANA chapters throughout North America.  Starting January 2010 all FHASE members who show, do exhibitions or who volunteer will earn points for their activities.
For example:

§  Volunteer Hours – Each chapter would receive so many points for volunteering at various events based upon the hours.  Examples of events would include but is not limited to Equine Affaires, Keurings, Fairs and expos. Example:  Equine Affaire 7 volunteers each volunteered 2 hours the chapter would receive 14 pts.

§  Competitions/Shows – For each horse that participates in various shows/competitions the chapter would receive 1 point.  Example:  Feather Horse Spring Classic, FHASE has 5 horses participating they would receive 5 points.

Other parts of this program include:

§  Largest Membership Growth - This would be on a percentage base of how many they increased from the year before to join the chapter and FHANA.

§  Membership Retainment- Percentage of members who stay on with chapter from year to year.

§  Technology- Chapter would receive credits for how they use technology to their advantage ie. Website, Newsletter, etc…  Decision comes from BOD.

The winning chapter will receive $500 from FHANA to be used at the chapter's discretion for a clinic or show.
I will send out more directions as we get closer to the new year but just wanted to make sure that all FHASE members are aware of this exciting new program.

FHANA implements Drug Policy

As I am sure many of you are aware of, FHANA has implemented a drug policy this year for the Keurings, and all future events for that matter.  Attached you will find the policy that was recently approved by the board of directors.  FHANA will follow the guidelines that are set in place by the United States Equestrian Federation.  I am attaching a link to this http://www.usef.org/documents/competitions/2007/2007DrugsMedsGuidelines.pdf

The membership has been notified that this would be taking place in the Friesian magazine.  What we have done now is put the policy in place so that everyone understand it.  We will be notifying the membership of the effective policy via the Aug. newsletter.

We will be asking that all participants sign a waiver.  This waiver will be included in the information that FHANA sends you with your keurings.  All participants will be required to sign this waiver, and the waiver will then need to be sent back to the FHANA office.

If you have any question please don’t hesitate to contact the office.

Dear FHASE Members,

below is a special invitation by FHASE member Ria van der Veen for a tour to the 2009 Central Mare Inspection and KFPS 130th Anniversary Show in the Netherlands.  Mention to Ria that you are a FHASE member and your first evening "Meet & Greet" dinner in the Netherlands will be FREE.
2009 Tour to the Netherlands with Central Mare Inspections and KFPS 130th Anniversary Show!

We will be organizing another tour to the Netherlands, around the dates of the Central Mare Inspections and 130th Anniversary Show! The show dates are October 23 and 24.

This tour will be led by Wendy Klazenga and I, two native Dutch people, who have been working in the Friesian horse world of the Netherlands and the United States for many years. An educational and cultural program, based on the Friesian breed in all its aspects, will be offered.
The tour will include all ground transportation to and from Schiphol Airport (Amsterdam) and throughout the Netherlands, central mare show tickets and accommodation.

Wendy and I speak fluent English and Dutch and we know our way around in the Friesian horse world in the Netherlands. We are familiar with restaurants, accommodation, etc. and can tell you about the history of the country and its province of Friesland. We also have valuable contacts with barns and trainers in Friesland. All of this will ensure a great package for a great “Friesian” week. You will meet other Friesian horse lovers from the United States and maybe other countries, and get valuable contacts in the Netherlands.
There will be enough time in the program to relax, to do some (horse) shopping if you want and/or learn more about the Friesian culture. Read more about our October tour on our website www.oldcorner.nl  under News.
Also read the Anniversary Show news on the KFPS website (www.kfps.nl) and order your show tickets now.

Our deepest sympathy is being sent to FHASE members Melissa and Jorge Alvarez in the loss of their beloved Star mare, Klaske.
Melissa and Klaske have been battling the effects of lamenitis caused by septic metritis for the past three months and finally that battle ended on Tuesday, May 26th 2009.
Melissa was selfless and tireless in her care and treatment for this mare that she loved so dearly.  She  spent most of every day with Klaske just supporting and caring for her.
Our hearts go out to you Melissa and to your family in this time of loss.
I know that I speak for all FHASE members when I say that our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Our Annual Meeting was well attended this year - and beside the actual meeting, many members brought their horses and made the trip to Wellborn into a equine mini-vacaction.

2009 Meeting Minutes

March
Dear Members,
It doesn't seem possible that another year has gone by and it's time once again for our annual FHASE meeting.
It has been tradition that FHASE meets here at Imperial Oaks Friesians in Wellborn,Florida, where FHASE was established. (Call it nostalgia!)
The meeting will be held on Saturday, May 2nd at 1:00 in the afternoon.  Again tradition, we share in a pot luck dinner here after the meeting on Saturday evening.
In past years, some members have come early, brought their horses along and we have trail ridden on Saturday morning and again on Sunday for those who can stay.  We can put up several horses here on the ranch on a first come, first serve basis.  We have space for living quarter trailers (no hook ups though) and there are several very reasonable motels within 10 minutes of the ranch.
This year we will be electing two officers, President and Treasurer for the next two years.
If you would like to run for either of these positions please let me know by April 1st to allow for ballots to be made and sent to membership for private voting.
Nadine Kothe, our treasurer will be running for re-election as will I for president.  We welcome others who might want to run also.
We will also be discussing the FHASE budget for the next fiscal year and value input as to how members would like to see the budget set up and how we can best support our members in all areas.
So mark your calendar and come on down or up to share in our annual meeting and trail riding.
Please let me know if you plan to attend early so we can plan for all and coordinate the Saturday nite pot luck dinner.
Thanks!

Welcome to our newest members: Carol Minker of Naples, FL; Regina Buescher of Windermere, FL and Shirley Whirley of Marbury, AL.
February
FHASE would like to welcome its first new members of 2009: Bruce & Staci Griffin of Gretna, VA and Christine Lewis of Palm Springs, FL.

There is a possibility that Chris Irwin might be coming to Tennessee, near Knoxville, for a Symposium and/or Horsemanship Clinic!  Chris practices natural horsemanship for problem horses. "Chris Irwin is much more than just a horse trainer. His unique path in life of turning tragedies into triumphs has led him to become a truly gifted communicator. Now, as a cutting-edge personal coach, Chris inspires and facilitates his students to learn how to harness their inner horsepower through ongoing workshops in Equine Assisted Personal Development."

Please visit his website for more information: http://www.chrisirwin.com/clinics.php

Negotiations are still in the works so it may not appear on his 2009 Event Schedule right away.  Tentative time frame under discussion is for summer or fall.  If Chris knows ahead of time that we can fill a Horsemanship Clinic (9 participants), he will most likely agree to come.  If you or anyone you know might be interested in attending, let Buddy and Jenny Brewer know as soon as possible by email or phone.
